THABA-TSEKA – Lesotho Post Bank has opened a new branch in Ha Marakabei to make banking more convenient and accessible to its customers who reside in the mountainous district.

Speaking at the opening ceremony last week the bank’s managing director Molefi Leqhaoe said it had taken them a longer time to open the Marakabei branch. “But the bottom line is at last we opened it and we are hopeful it will bring employment for the people of Ha Marakabei,” Mr Leqhaoe said.
He added that all they needed to do as a bank was to bring financial literacy to their customers, so that they could make informed and effective decisions with all of their financial resources. He appealed to the farmers, especially producers of wool and mohair to save and invest to increase productivity and efficiency in agriculture.

To the community at large, he urged them to love, protect and support Lesotho Post Bank as they would benefit a lot from its services. Deputy Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology, Mats’eliso Phafoli said since the establishment of the bank in 2005, it was assigned to offer financial services in hard to reach areas, adding it had however done well under the circumstances. As part of their benefits, Mrs Phafoli said the customers would be able to bank from the comfort of their homes. She said they would not necessarily need to visit the bank in order to access services like Khetsi.

She appealed to the community to use the bank, adding that because it was Basotho-owned, it was therefore their responsibility to ensure its growth. A wool farmer, Sidwell Lenka, who is eager to start banking with the financial institution said the convenience of a bank at their doorstep was like a dream come true. “I am happy because now I will not have to travel long distances to get to the bank to access my money, we are truly blessed,” Mr Lenka told Metro on the side-lines of the ceremony.

Another member of the community, Mokotjomane Tau said he liked the fact that most farmers in the community would no longer keep large sums of money in their homes where they were prone to the risk of burglary. “Lesotho Post Bank is now at our doorsteps so banking with them is going to be easy,” Mr Tau also said.
