MASERU - The government of Lesotho will send at least 520 professionals for short-term courses to China in order for them to take a leaf from how the Chinese manage efficient service. The Minister of Development Planning, Mr. Tlohelang Aumane said the programme, which commenced in April 2018, is expected to continue until January 2019. “This means that, by then, there will be a lot of improvement in both public and private sector in terms of service delivery,” he said. The beneficiaries of the courses are drawn from various government departments such as procurement, nursing, mining, hospital administration and financial management among others and they are expected on their return home to introduce the latest technologies applied in the delivery of services to the public. According to Mr. Aumane, “this opportunity came at the right time when the country is reviewing its national priorities; therefore, those courses will be aligned with them. This means that the country will have enough and qualified manpower to meet its priorities”. He noted that among the youth, there are 20 nurses and 20 hospital administrators who will help the country to save Basotho lives through providing health services, especially children and women, by reducing child and maternal mortality. Mr. Aumane thanked the government of China for affording Lesotho the opportunity and said that such bilateral and multilateral trainings would eventually make a difference to the lives of ordinary Basotho by improving their health standards. He therefore ensured that this will contribute to the country’s development. The mission of the Ministry of Development Planning is to strive to achieve high, shared and sustainable employment, creating economic growth and development through results-oriented national development plans, policy advice to government, mobilisation, and coordination of resources.
