The ministry has embarked on the process of formulating a wool and mohair marketing policy, which will assist in the new regulatory framework.
This was contained in the report on wool and mohair investigations by the wool and mohair ad hoc committee.
“We take into consideration the recommendation of the Ad hoc committee on wool and mohair to investigate the sale of wool and mohair in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons. The Ministry will ensure that an independent authority is instituted as soon as possible,” the report released earlier this week shows.
It further states that the ministry is working towards rectifying mistakes on the disallowance of some of the provisions of the Agricultural Marketing (Wool and Mohair) (Licencing) Legal Notice 97.
“As we recall, the ministry amended Wool and Mohair 2018 regulations, hence, the promulgation of Agricultural Marketing Wool and Mohair regulations of 2019. The ministry is aware of the disallowance of some of the provisions. And the disallowance means that the operating law shall be the 2018 regulations as far as the disallowed provisions are concerned,” the report says.
