Standard Lesotho Bank said in a statement that Mr Cockerill’s passing was huge a loss and his wealth of experience in the banking industry would also be immensely missed.
“It is with great sadness that the board of directors of Standard Lesotho Bank announces the death of the chief executive of Standard Lesotho Bank, Kenrick Cockerill, who has died after a short illness,” the bank also showed. The statement added: “Mr Cockerill succumbed to illness on Tuesday 20 October.
His untimely death is a great loss to the bank, our staff and the banking industry in general as we were looking up to him to improve the experience of our customers across all our points of presence. “The board, management and staff of the bank convey their heartfelt condolences to his family. He will be truly missed.”
Prior to his appointment to the position of CEO in Lesotho earlier in April, Mr Cockerill held a similar post at the Standard Bank in Tanzania.He replaced former CEO Mpho Vumbukhani who resigned earlier this year.Mr Cockrell had a successful 32-year
career with the Standard Bank group and held several key leadership and specialist roles in South Africa, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Nigeria, Malawi, Uganda, Kenya and Mozambique. He was a Bachelor of Commerce graduate from the University of Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa, a qualification he obtained in 1986.
