The Maseru Magistrate Court will on July 13 hear a case in which three employees of the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) are charged with theft of over M100, 000 worth of electricity.

The trio briefly appeared before court late last month, but the court on Thursday set hearing dates for their case that will be heard by Senior Resident Magistrate Phethise Motanyane on the mentioned date. ‘Mamohale Mohale, 43, – Prepayment Clerk, Malefetsane Mphunyane, 47, who works as a Supervisor, and Kekeletso Makhetha, 49, an Inspector are charged with the crime the crown alleges they committed at the LEC offices at the Industrial Area, in Maseru between July 2013 and May 2014.

The charge alleges that the trio acted in common purpose and intentionally transferred electricity, which the company gives them as part of their monthly benefits to the value of M146, 673.97, to people who are not LEC employees and did so without the company’s consent. The accused are currently out on bail. They were granted bail on condition that each pays a bail deposit of M1,500, attend remands on set dates, stand trial to finality, and not to interfere with crown witnesses and police investigations.
