The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) says it will continue to provide essential services delivery during the Covid-19 lockdown and these include compensation, water delivery and hydropower generation. The LHDA says it has been categorized as an essential service by the government of Lesotho during the current Covid-19 enforced national lockdown. “The LHDA will ensue with the compensation of affected communities while continuing water delivery and hydropower generation,” it said in in statement on Wednesday April 1.

The novel coronavirus outbreak and subsequent restrictions on movement present challenges to all businesses.  LHDA’s Management has put in place measures to ensure the continuity of operations and maintenance activities and Phase II implementation. These measures include applying flexible working hours, introducing shift work and using Information Communication Technology (ICT) tools that enable the staff to work from home, holding virtual meetings and as far as possible, ensuring the execution of functions remotely.

“While ensuring business continuity is essential, the health and safety of our employees and the communities we serve is our top priority. We have put in place precautionary measures to mitigate the impacts of Covid-19. We are greatly indebted to the leadership and guidance of the Board and Commissioon in the fight against the rapid spread of the virus,” states LHDA CE, Tente Tente.

All LHDA service providers and suppliers are expected to comply with the lock down regulations in Lesotho, and also make all reasonable efforts to meet their contractual obligations.

Operations will continue under the steadfast leadership of the Board and the Lesotho Highlands Water Commission who have an oversight role to ensure that LHDA enforces the preventative measures recommended by the Lesotho Ministry of Health’s Disease Control and Prevention Department and the World Health Organization (WHO).
