STAFF REPORTER MASERU – A father of a three-month old baby who claims to have stolen property belonging to the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) says he was desperate to feed his starving child.  The convicted Ha Lenono thief was yesterday slapped with a 10-year jail-term by the Maseru Magistrate’s Court for the theft of property worth M52 160 belonging to the power utility outfit. The court however, granted Malebo Thekiso an option to pay a M10 000 fine, which he failed to raise before he was sent to prison. Thekiso, 24, pleaded guilty of stealing items that comprised numerous iron rods along with 10 bolts and sheer-off nuts all worth an estimated M52 160.  Evidence presented before court showed that the incident occurred at LEC’s power station located in Ha Lenono between January and June. Mr Mohau Mahanyele prosecuted in the matter that was before Magistrate Nthabiseng Moopisa.
