BOTH the Democratic Congress (DC)’s Youth League and Women's League have rubbished as untrue media reports alleging that some women offer sexual favours to get employed in certain government ministries.

This surfaced during a press briefing that was held at the party offices on Thursdays.

The Youth League’s Public Relations Officer Moliehi Maliba said the claims were only meant to tarnish the image of women, especially those who are active in politics.

She said it is disappointing that there are men out there who still see women as sex objects rather than compatriots who need their assistance and protection.

Ms Maliba said about 30 percent of the DC is composed of women, adding that is how the party operates.

“The DC seeks to empower women in all areas of life and that has been done with a huge success. We will keep fighting despite the dirty talks of people who do not value the vital roles played by women in making Lesotho a better place,” she said.

The Women’s League’s Deputy Speaker, Lobe Moeletsi shared similar sentiments about the media reports belittling women, saying the accusations were both disappointing and hurting. She pleaded with whoever is responsible for the propaganda to stop immediately, saying such acts take women’s confidence away.

For her part, the Chairperson of the Women's league, Shale Moeketsi said the party has no say in who gets employed in the public service, adding that the Public Service Commission is responsible for that particular task. LeNA
