BNP Secretary General Tšepo Monethi says the leadership elective conference is going ahead as planned despite allegations that some party members have blocked it through a court order.

The conference is scheduled for Saturday, with the party expected to usher in a new leader, after Chief Thesele Maseribane's 10-year rule expired in March.
Mr Monethi said his office has not received any court order or communication blocking the weekend assembly, hence the conference continues as scheduled.
He said many people are resistant to change, adding that some members have been in the party for years but still do not have the necessary understanding that changes come with time.
On allegations of “disgruntled members who wish to launch a war” against party deputy leader Machesetsa Mofomobe, Mr Monethi said whatever happens, voters will express their will by a show of vote as to who they want as their new leader.

Disgruntled party members are said to be planning to drag the party to court ahead of the elective conference because a call for elections of constituency committees was unconstitutional as some of them have not yet completed their term.
Earlier this year, party members threatened to take the National Executive Committee (NEC) to court trying to force it to call for elections of the party leader earlier than June 12. LeNA
