Speaking at the PPE handover event that was held on August 27, where the Chinese Embassy had donated the equipment to Lesotho, Moakhi pledged that in spite of all challenges encountered, the fight against the pandemic will eventually be won.
He said there is no doubt that the supplied gear is of the best quality there is in the market.
Reports he said show that the number of recorded COVID-19 cases in Lesotho is steadily increasing, despite the government’s efforts to bring the spread of the disease under control.
“We are living in a global village, the moment China gets infected; no doubt Lesotho will be infected too,” the deputy minister also said, adding however that with the assistance of its partners like China, Lesotho has a chance of winning the battle.
For his part, the Chinese Ambassador to Lesotho Lei Kezhong said the medical equipment embodies the friendship and support of the Chinese people to their Basotho friends.
He said it also demonstrates strong and long lasting bilateral relations between the two countries.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic in Lesotho, China has donated six batches of PPE to the former - three directly from the Chinese government and the other three from the Jack Ma Foundation.
Kezhong said as partners, China and Lesotho have been supporting each other since the outbreak, pledging further backing to Lesotho in the fight against the pandemic.
He said the president of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping has shown that China and Africa are committed to fighting COVID-19 together; adding that both will jointly work to build a healthy future.
