After a long day at work, going to the gym is probably the last thing on people’s lists of priorities but exercising actually gives one more energy, and levels of fatigue, as well as depression, improve after some minutes’ session of moderately intensive exercise.

Mpho Mabela a personal trainer at a gymnasium in Maseru says yoga is an ancient form of exercise that can reduce stress and relieve muscular tension or pain. Mabela says yoga is one of the best workouts for a person who is exhausted because it teaches one relaxation techniques to reduce stress and risks of injury. He says physical exercise improves the physical condition and fights diseases, adding that medical doctors always encourage staying physically active.

Studies show that exercising is quite effective at reducing fatigue, improving alertness and concentration, and enhancing overall cognitive function. This can be especially helpful when stress has depleted one’s energy or ability to concentrate.

“If one finds it difficult to sleep at night, between the non-stop yawning, heavy eyelids, and some serious brain fog, they must just roll out of bed and do some exercises, that will help a lot,” Mabela says.

He notes that while a good exercise can provide energy, but it is also important to stay hydrated as a lack of enough water causes fatigue.

“Being dehydrated leaves one feeling slugging and slow, therefore it is important to drink water throughout the day because even mild dehydration causes headaches and muscle cramps,” he says.  He adds: “Another thing is to remain motivated as lack of motivation also causes tiredness.”

The exercise he says is a perfect way to determine the level of one’s tiredness at a particular time, as the physical activity increases the pain-killing hormones that help minimize discomfort and make one feel overjoyed.

“However, there are also dangers of working out while exhausted, which one should be aware of. This increases the risks of injuries and should be avoided,” he says. He admits that there are risks in every form of exercise be it running, swimming, and even dancing, just to mention a few. “It is therefore important for one to always be aware of their surroundings just to be safe,” he also says.
