AFTER not recording any deaths for a week, the Lesotho COVID-19 Update released on Friday shows that more six people have died from the fatal virus since Monday.

The update which is compiled by National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) shows that out of the 202 COVID-19 new tests conducted, 69 new positive cases were recorded together with 49 new recoveries.

The country's statistics currently stand at 49 698 tests, 8 969 positive cases, 2 601 recoveries and 178 deaths.
The update comes as the country enters into another level of lockdown after three weeks in total nationwide lockdown.

The new relaxed lockdown has opened various activities including among others church services, liquor trading and restaurants, which are allowed to operate for a limited time, under strict regulations while observing safety protocols against the pandemic.

As the numbers continue to rise, all hope is not lost because other countries around the world have started receiving and administering the COVID-19 vaccination.

These countries include Lesotho's neighbour, South Africa which received its first batch of the vaccine earlier this week and is preparing for its roll-out.
Lesotho reported its first COVID-19 case on May 13, 2020 and its first COVID-19 related death followed shortly thereafter.
