Khaya Holdings in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology as well as Vodacom Lesotho have unveiled a television musical reality search show, Step-Up Lesotho Season 1.

The programme will start with search for raw talent around the country in all districts with events that will be aired on television until the top three contestants who will produce the overall winner. According to Step-Up Executive producer and Managing Director for Khaya Holdings Tumahole Lechesa, the move towards unearthing raw talent in the remote areas of Lesotho among individuals who have never dreamed of showcasing their talent or recording an album.

“The collaboration is aimed at helping the young aspiring musicians realise their dream by providing an enabling platform to start their dreams whilst also pioneering change in Lesotho’s media and entertainment industry,” he said.

Lechesa said there have been several platforms such as the Ultimate Awards that motivated and recognised musical talent in Lesotho which the Step-Up initiative serves to complement as “the show focuses on discovering upcoming music stars to mould them to become music stars recognised both locally and beyond the borders of Lesotho while presenting a mature entertainment for the viewers.”

He said: “What gives Step-Up its uniqueness is African story telling perspective through a rich African musical culture that serves as a channel of expression of the local genre to the international musical language. “The show will meanwhile be an annual event focusing on any talented person aged between 15 and 35 that have auditioned at various scheduled locations and it is expected to attract viewers both locally and abroad. “Over and above that the initiative strives to offer a sustainable career, it is also going to give the final prize of a car and record deals will be awarded to deserving artists.”
