MASERU – Budding local comedians will go toe to toe against one another at a stand-up comedy session scheduled for Wella’s Park in St Monica’s, Leribe, on Saturday.

The much-anticipated show titled: First Annual Comedy Night, will feature local heavy-duty stand-up comedians such as Bofihla Lilaphalapha ’Neko, Litabe Makhubelu Kotelo and Makara Curaman Mapuru.  Curaman also hosts a popular comedy show on People’s Choice FM called Qaboha meaning ‘have a good laugh’.

The First Annual Comedy Night gig is part of initiatives to develop the comedy industry in Lesotho, hence why another district apart from the capital Maseru, was picked to host the weekend event.  In the famous and brief Makhubelu movies, Kotelo portrays a vicious rural woman who illtreats her elderly and unemployed husband, Seoelo. In real life, Kotelo is a down-to-earth and qualified high school male teacher who is actually shy by nature.

Actor, producer and director of the Sesotho comic movie series Lilaphalapha, ’Neko is no newcomer to the game and has played leading characters in the four Lilaphalapha comedy movies produced so far. As for Curaman, under his Cura Productions, he has been recruiting comedians at grassroots level in his talent searches that target all the districts. “It is going to be an unforgettable night where top local comedians are going to battle it out. Leribe just can’t wait for this one,” said reveler, ’Mantoetsi Mochebekoane of Matukeng in Leribe.
