TOP local rapper, J-Cob on Saturday scooped both the Best Male and Classic of the Decade accolades during the Lesmusic Awards ceremony that was held at the Thaba-Bosiu Cultural Village.

"This moves the number of awards I have received over the years in my career from four to six," the talented musician says with delight.
The artiste whose real name is Zula Mofokeng began his career in 2013 with a single, titled “Ke teng” produced by Black Steel.

He later produced follow up tracks including “Hanyane” and “Ha Ke Sbaye (Helele Banna)”.
With just a few songs under his belt, J-Cob fast enjoyed a huge following both in Lesotho and Free State province in South Africa, owing to his unique approach to Hip Hop.

He soon claimed his position as the best Sotho hip hop artiste after receiving several awards in 2015 for the Best Newcomer and Best Hip Hop Act at the Golden Bean Music Awards.
Months later, he won the Song of the Year award at the Ultimate Music Awards with “Ha Ke Sbaye (Helele Banna)” and scooped another Ultimate Music Award for Song of the year (“Mathat’a Lefatše) in the subsequent year.

The talented musician grew up in Maseru before relocating to SA (Bethlehem) in 2014.

J-Cob’s breakthrough came when he caught the eye of popular Lesedi FM presenter, Ba2Cada.

“Ba2cada was impressed by my performance at his show called Tippy Toes in 2014 and that was the turning point of my career,” he recalls.

With Ba2cada’s assistance, J-Cob has already performed at various major events in SA, including the Mangaung Cultural Festival.

“Music is not for the faint hearted but it requires confidence and determination,” the artiste says.

“In South Africa, many stars have made a name for themselves playing their own style of music and I will not rest until Sesotho music gets the recognition it deserves.”
