“THABENG Tse Ntle”, a revised song written by a homebrewed musician Mashibi Motsamai Mashibi, is a popular track in an album called Harambee 16 Various Artists Vol 1, collectively composed by 16 local artists.

The album is a recent offering put together by amongst others, Kamohelo Tshola (son of the legendary Afro Jazz star Tšepo Tshola), Sipho Lukhele, Mongali Nthako, Tšitso ‘G-Man’ Matsipa, Pitso ‘Rah’ Makhula, Wave Rhyder; C-Jo, PKay featuring Minister Spokes and Mashibi.

The track – “Thabeng Tse Ntle”, praises the beautiful places in Lesotho, the mountains, valleys, rivers and so forth.

Mashidi, 28, a lead guitarist is described by the producers as Harambee Global Records’ finest recently discovered talent.

The song whose original version was purely Afro Jazz, has been revised in this new album and is now contemporary music fused with the latest beats.

The hit song was recorded live with Mashibi’s booming voice on the forefront and its instruments are in perfect synchronisation.

“Afro Jazz is my cup of tea inspired by the legendary Tšepo Tshola and the late Oliver Mtukidzi. They were the motivation behind the crafting of my music,” says the singer who also plays professionally for the national army band.

He says the two superstars have been quite inspirational to him from an early age. However, his approach to music swiftly changed when he joined the Harambee stable.

“This is where I really discovered my full potential in the music and perfected my craft, working together with other young musicians and producers singed under the same record label. I’m grateful to have been part of Harambee because my music has reached many people around the country and all of a sudden I have become a star.

“I have not yet performed alongside any big names on stage, but I am gaining good momentum. I performed at the HACOP event as well as the 2020 LETOFE with my band, Heroes Jazz Band,” says the artiste, promising not to let fame go to his head as he still has a lot to learn from others.

The multi-talented artist/soldier who uses the stage name Mashibi was born in Mokema, Maseru.

While several songs in the album have an Afro Jazz or Afro Soul contemporary touch, most of artists featured bring out the diversity of the talent that Lesotho possesses, according to the Co-producer, Production Manager and one of the artists featured in the album, Lelaka Lelaka.

“What makes this album even more relevant at this point in time is the fact that young and old talents have come together under the capable hands of talented producers. The 17-track album is a worthy possession for those who love to collect music.

It has attracted both local and international recognition, especially in South Africa,” Lelaka says.

The arts management and promotion company Harambee Global Records, operating from Stadium Area in Maseru, has so far signed over 200 artists and recorded 80 of them.
