Nedbank Lesotho has requested to be given adequate time to investigate claims of three wool farmers who allegedly received bribe from the BKB wool and mohair brokers.
The bank made the request yesterday during its first appearance before the ad hoc committee in Parliament. The bank's legal officer Advocate 'Mampho Leshoele said they had prepared to testify on the bank's financial procedures based on the invitation letter from the committee and not against their clients’ financial status. “We request the committee to give us more time to go and make further investigations more so because of the clients’ confidentiality rules which we need to comply with. Besides, we were not aware that we would be asked questions relating to our clients’ financial status,” Adv Leshoele said.

This was after the chairperson of the committee Kimetso Mathaba had asked the bank to explain if three wool and mohair farmers Tanki Chaka, Khotsang Moshoeshoe and Mokoenehi Thinyane had received any money from BKB amounting to M450 000 and M4 million. The committee agreed to give the bank the requested reprieve and to report back its findings. The allegations about the bribe were made by Minister of Small Business, Cooperatives and Marketing Chalane Phori.
