The troubled ruling party of All Basotho Convention (ABC) has issued a circular calling for emergency general meeting of members to take part in the resolution of long standoff and come up with a decision regarding the way forward. The crisis indaba, according to the circular signed by ABC secretary general, Samonyane Ntsekele, will be held at Lehakoe Recreation Centre in Maseru on June 24, 2019. A list of delegates, says the circular, should reach the party office by June 7, 2019. The crisis indaba comes after a long tug of war between the outgoing and incoming national executive committees (NEC) of the party after party elective conference in February. The conference was preceded by disagreements regarding eligibility of the incoming deputy leader, Professor Nqosa Mahao, whose nomination for the position was rejected by the executive committee. Prof Mahao challenged the decision in the high court, the action which prompted the NEC to serve him with dismissal letter for violating its constitution which says any member who sue the party is considered to have dismissed himself from the party. Prof Mahao also sought court intervention on the section of the constitution for being unconstitutional and undemocratic and the court of appeal made a decision in his favour. He therefore went to participate in the conference through a court order and was elected the deputy leader. However, some members of the party challenged the results in court, the action which prompted the outgoing NEC to refuse to hand over office keys to the incoming committee. The ABC fight has been going on in courts, in the media and at the constituency level where both factions separately tried to woo and win ordinary members to their sides. While addressing his party rally held in Maseru on Sunday, party leader Tom Thabane called on all members who have cases in court to withdraw them and opt for the negotiations.
