The Minister of Social Development Temeki Ts’olo said the aim of celebrating the event this year is to ensure a serious self-examination and commitment towards addressing the numerous challenges facing children across the African continent. Ts’olo said to date, South African children have their right to a better education because of those who fought and died for their education on that fateful day.
This year’s theme, focuses mainly on humanitarian action in Africa and the children’s rights. Ts’olo said the humanitarian crisis resulting from various factors and a combination of several other factors pose significant risks and threats to the lives, safety, security health and general wellbeing of a large number of people at a time, with little or no capacity to cope with the impacts of crises. “Lesotho chose to celebrate this day in A’skop, Ts’epong in the Quthing district on Tuesday 18 June because the normal day of June 16 was on a Sunday,” the minister said.
