The director general of anti-corruption body, Advocate Borotho Matsoso, has been fired with immediate effect on Tuesday. According to the state news agency, LENA, advocate Matsoso received letter of dismissal from the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO), after he asked for his contract, which is due for expiry in June, to be renewed.

Advocate Matsoso confirmed to the agency that he received a letter on Tuesday (February 19) which entailed that his contract which was supposed to expire in June this year will not be renewed, further indicating that he has been released of his duty with immediate effect on receipt of the letter. He noted that though the letter did not elaborate much on the reasons for his dismissal, it was shown that he should go on immediate leave until June when his contract will be expiring. Advocate Matsoso stated that the letter was a response from the one he procedurally wrote earlier informing his employer that his contract will expire in June however saying this is a bit unusual as he had expected an approval or decline to renew the contract and not a dismissal letter. He however indicated that he will be out of office effectively from next Monday as he still has to pack his stuff and make a proper hand over to whoever will take his position.
