MASERU - The Mafeteng-based outfit, Bantu, have been officially crowned the new Econet Premier League 2017/18 champions and they received a M500,000 cheque and gold medals after beating Matlama in the final league game played at Setsoto Stadium on Saturday.

Bantu came from 1-0 down in the first half to win the last game of the season 2-1, sending the Black and Yellow faithfuls into frenzy.
Speaking after the game, the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) Spokesperson, Mr. Lekholoa 'Chipa' Mosito said the soccer season is over and Bantu have been officially crowned the new league champions.

He dismissed reports that the club could be deprived the title if they are docked some points. “I am not aware of any intention to take away the title from Bantu. Such talk is a smear campaign by detractors who are not willing to give credit where it is due,” he commented.
When approached for comment, Bantu President Mr. John Leuta said they were over the moon after defied all odds to clinch the league title having overcome all the challenges, adding that the technical team deserves credit.

He also took time to thank the supporters and sponsors. He said even when the club was faced with legal protests, the players remained focused through the assistance of the technical team as the legal department was dealing with the issues. Mr. Leuta said the fact that the club has different structures such technical, legal, marketing and administration departments, it made it easy for the departments to separately deal with their respective matters of concern for the smooth running of the club. He revealed: “The players know what awaits them after winning any cup. There will be a player’s award ceremony soon. The marketing department is already working on it. There will also be a fun walk and a trophy parade.”

Bantu won the league after amassing a total of 56 points from 26 games. Lioli are the league runners up with 48 points. Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) came third with 43 points and Matlama took the fourth spot with 42 points. The teams pocketed M500,000, M200,000, M120,000 and M100,000, respectively.

Completing the Top Eight are the Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) with 40 points, Kick4Life, 39, Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS), 33, and Majantja with 29 points. They also took home M75,000, M70,000, M65,000 and M60,000, respectively.
At the bottom of the league are Liphakoe with 29, Linare, 25, Sefothafotha, 24, and FC Likhopo, 17, while the relegated Sky Battalion who were compensated with M55,000, M50,000, M45,000, M40,000 as the prize money after appearing 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th positions. Lena
