AS scores of shoppers are excited, celebrating Black Friday starting on Thursday this week, thousands of other people do not know anything about the day, hence, they feel that the day does not have any impact on their lives.

Black Friday traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season across the world.

Many stores offer highly promoted sales at discounted prices and often open early, sometimes as early as midnight to welcome customers.

Black Friday is the biggest and best shopping event of the year with thousands of discounts to be had across everything from TVs, laptops, gaming, and home appliance as well as beauty and fashion clothes among others.

Almost every brand in the country takes part in this event on an annual basis.

While the day is largely popular in many parts of the world, in Lesotho, however, there are still a lot of people who do not understand and or see any relevance of this day in their culture.

“I do not know anything about this day, I have heard people talking about it but to me, it does not mean anything. I think that is because where I come from in Butha-Buthe, the day is never celebrated at all, so it is difficult for me to align with the happenings of the day,” Tlohang Majara told Maseru Metro on Thursday.

Majara added, however, that he is not against anyone who goes out of their way to celebrate the day.

Small Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMMEs) in Maseru are set to benefit from this day as thousands of Basotho are set to dominate their businesses on Friday.

Although many potential customers are likely to target bigger stores, SMMEs are also expected to benefit due to congestion and heavy traffic anticipated at bigger stores.
