The high court has issued an order allowing the faction of All Basotho Convention (ABC) of Qoaling constituency branch to go ahead and hold a rally on Sunday for the newly elected committee of the party. Justice Tseliso Monaphathi issued an order after a lawyers representing the applicants and the respondents agreed that the rally should proceed as planned.

The court ordered that the decision of the District Commissioner of Maseru police of revoking the permit previously granted on May 29, 2019 to the constituency is reviewed, corrected and set aside, and that the Commissioner’s decision of revoking the permit without affording the constituency a hearing is stayed pending the finalisation of the case.

The court also ordered that the respondents are interdicted from making any decision whose end effect is to disturb or make it impossible for the applicants to host their peaceful meeting (rally). Judge Monaphathi’s order also stated that the respondents are ordered to ensure, as it is their duty under the law, to give the necessary security at the meeting to be held on Sunday (June 9). In the application, the applicants had argued among others that they had already incurred huge costs in relation to the entire preparations for the said meeting. They also argued that other constituencies which have been invited have already made preparations and it would not be easy to cancel the invitations.
