MASERU - The judiciary through both the High Court and the Maseru Magistrate's Court has effective from Monday started implementing control measures to fight the spread of Corona virus.

An officer is stationed at the entrance of the High Court building to ensure that people who walk in sanitise their hands.

The number of people who visit the court building is also regulated to ensure that there are few people in the building at the same time.
Only legal representatives involved in a case and seven members of the media are allowed in a courtroom at a time.

But in case high profile cases, one member from one media house is allowed to attend the hearing.

From Monday, members of the public who had gone to the High Court to hear cases were not allowed into the courtrooms.

Both divorce cases and motion rolls have been suspended as they often attract large numbers of legal representatives and litigants.
At the Magistrate’s Court, litigants are made to wait outside the building before they are called in small groups or individually depending on the type of services they require.

These strict measures have ensured that there is no overcrowding in courtrooms and corridors of both court buildings.
According to a statement released by the High Court last week, for all cases already enrolled for hearing before judges, only legal representatives and witnesses will be allowed into the courtrooms.

The Magistrate’s Court has also issued a notice stating that all people coming for remands will no longer enter courtrooms in large numbers and will be called in groups of at least five.
