RECENT untoward events in Lesotho's judicial system have forced a foreign judge who was engaged to hear high profile cases in the High Court, to resign.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Botswana judge, Justice Onkemetse Tshosa resigned from his SADC assignment in Lesotho.

He had been assigned to preside over high profile cases against among others, members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) and prominent political leaders.

One of the trials Justice Tshosa heard was against soldiers who allegedly strangled three men at the military camp in Setiping, Maseru.

The three men’s bodies were thereafter dumped in the Mohale Dam where they were later fished out by police.

Justice Tshosa is the second Botswana judge to resign from the SADC assignment in Lesotho. Justice Kabelo Lebotse was the first to leave last year due to salary issues.

Judiciary’s Public Relations Officer, ’Mabohlokoa Mapikitla has confirmed the judge's resignation, saying it is effective from August 1.

She however, showed that the reasons for the judge’s resignation were personal, adding that she was therefore not in a position to comment on the matter. LeNA
