MASERU - Deputy Commissioner of Police, Paseka Mokete briefly appeared before the Maseru Magistrate's Court on Tuesday charged with sexual offence, assault and malicious damage to property.

It is alleged that on April 29, Mokete, 47, touched the buttocks of a 42-year-old police inspector without her consent at the National Assembly. It is further alleged that on the same date and place, Mokete assaulted the same police officer by pulling her to ground and dragging her around.

The accused deputy commissioner of police is also alleged to have during the same incident torn a pair of pants belonging to the complainant. Magistrate Senekale Qobolo granted Mokete free bail on condition that he attends remand hearings, stands trial to finality and does not interfere with crown witnesses. The accused DCP is represented in the matter by Advocate Monaheng Rasekoai.  He is expected back in court next week Friday for possible set down.
