… as Bantu put Matlama on check Econet Premier league will go down to the wire after two teams chasing the 2019 league title Bantu and Matlama all collected maximum points in their respective matches played over the weekend. Matlama FC currently sitting at the summit of the log standing, beat struggling Galaxy 3-0 to consolidate its position at the top of the Econet premier league and have managed to collect 56 points in 23 games. On the other hand, Bantu FC which is determined to defend the league title they won last season also beat Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) by a narrow 1-0 victory to put pressure on Matlama as they chase the league honours at the end of the season. Both teams are left with three games to play but are separated by only five points and are still going to play against each other as the race for the league title intensifies. What is more interesting is that both teams will still face each other in what could be the league title decider. Basement club at the log standing Swallows beat FC Likhopo by a slender 1-0 win, which could give the Mazenod based outfit a little hope of surviving relegation depending on whether the results of the remaining games will go in their favour and hoping that other teams in front also lose their matches. Majantja and Galaxy are other teams engaged in a dog fight to run away from the dreaded relegation axe. Speaking in an interview last week, Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) Public Relations Officer, Moeketsi Ramakatsa had made it clear that the last few league fixtures will be played at the same time to avoid any chances of match fixing. However, he lamented that they have a challenge of playing venues but promised that they would approach the Lesotho Football Association to allow the teams to use the Bambatha Ts'ita Sports Arena to avoid teams playing in double headers due to lack of playing facilities. Both LCS and Lioli will have to battle for the Top 4 finish after losing their last weekend matches 1-0 against Bantu and Lesotho Mounted Police Service respectively. The remaining league fixtures will be interesting for the spectators who will be eager to know which team will eventually be crowned the new 2019 league champions while others will be battling out for the Top 4 and Top 8 finish with others trying to run away from the relegation zone in order to stay in the premier league next season.
