THE government is rethinking its strategies and policies through a transformation exercise from manual filing and implementing the Digital Transformation Project.

The Acting Government Secretary, Emmanuel Lesoma made this statement on Thursday at the inception workshop on the Digital Transformation Project (e-Government Phase II project).
He said Principal Secretaries are faced with a mammoth task of ensuring that they serve the nation with transparency.

Mr Lesoma said growth in communication and information will assist the country to undergo transformation needed in all sectors.

He said it is time for the government to introduce e-government for efficient services, adding that this gesture will assist them to make informed decisions that will meet all the nation’s needs.
Speaking at the same occasion, the acting PS in the Ministry of Communications, ’Mabataung Khalane said they have discovered that on average, Lesotho citizens are becoming more digital serving.
She said as the government through the Ministry of Communication, they intend to provide Basotho with services digitally at affordable costs.

She said phase I which commenced in 2014 and was expected to end in 2018, will be completed in August 2021, adding that this phase improved delivery of public services.
Mrs Khalane said phase II of this project which commenced in September 2020, will be driving digital finance and financial inclusion especially among communities in the rural areas.

The second phase of the project is aimed at further expanding the digital infrastructure by constructing 48 Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers in rural areas and laying a 96 KM Optic Fibber between Roma and Thaba-Tseka. LeNA
