THE Ministry of Water Affairs held a panel discussion on pre-launched Integrated Catchment Management Project (ICM) which will be officially launched on Friday in Ha Koporale, Mohale in Thaba Tseka under the theme, “We are the river”.

The programme seeks to promote the sustainable management of land and water resources through the application of a climate-resilient ICM approach.
It again envisions an integrated planning for the management of land, water, and natural resources in the catchment areas of Lesotho in order to improve economic development and livestock.
Speaking at the panel discussion, the Minister of Water Nkaku Kabi said they decided to do this project due to the current climate change the country is experiencing, which impacts the resources, adding that the catchment will be relevant for Basotho and the economy.
He said after the completion of the project in about 10 years and beyond, Basotho will start to enjoy life because water itself is life.

On behalf of the private sector, Keneiloe Phomane from Letšeng Diamonds suggested that other private companies located in mining and agriculture areas should understand what ICM means. She said they should understand the needs of other stakeholders as a way of taking care and protecting the land and its resources.
For his part, the Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Tsoinyane Rapapa expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all ministries and shareholders who are playing a critical role in making the programme a success.

“I would like to extend Mr Mark Victor Jansen words to Minister Kabi, who says you do not wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect; there will always be challenges, obstacles less than perfect conditions. So what you have started now, with each step you take, you will grow stronger, more skillful, more confident and more successful,” he said.
ICM project is an initiative of the government of Lesotho jointly funded by the European Union (EU), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
The ICM project launch will be led by Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro. LeNA
