Govt reshuffles cabinet

PRIME Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro has reshuffled his cabinet, appointing new ministers and redeploying others.

The new appointments are effective from Friday.

In a media statement released on Friday, the Office of the Prime Minister has revealed that former Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture, Advocate Lekhetho Rakuane is now the Minister of Law and Justice.  

Former Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Tsuinyane Rapapa has assumed a new portfolio as the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, while the former Minister of Communications, Keketso Sello is the new Minister of Public Service.

Former Minister of Education and Training, Ntlhoi Motsamai now heads the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture.

“The Office of the Prime Minister wishes to inform the general public that pursuant to Section 87 (4) read with Section 89 of Lesotho’s Constitution, His Majesty King Letsie III has accepted the advice of The Right Hon the Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro, to appoint the following Members of Parliament as new cabinet ministers,” the statement further reads.

Former Deputy Minister of Water Affairs, Lepota Sekola assumes a new role as the Minister of Police and Public Safety while Likopo Mahase has been promoted to the position of Minister of Agriculture and Food Security from being the deputy in the same ministry.

Several other new deputy ministers have also been appointed. The swearing-in of new ministers and deputy minister was held on Friday.
