Maseru - The High Court through Justice Tšeliso Monaphathi has issued an interim court order blocking the factory worker's M2,000 minimum wage which was to be effective from April 1, 2018. The court made the order after the Judge heard the applicants’ lawyer's submissions. Judge Monaphathi ordered that the filed application should be treated with the urgency it deserves and that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mrs. Keketso Rantšo, should be interdicted from gazetting the factory workers’ minimum wage at M2,000, which was to be effective from April 01, 2018 as communicated to the Wages Board by the Minister of Public Service and Minister in the Prime Minister's office on August 10, 2018. The applicants who filed a notice of motion are the Association of Lesotho Employers and Business as well as Lesotho Textile Exporters Association. In the application, they asked the respondents to show cause if any, why the Minister of Labour and Employment shall not be interdicted from gazetting the factory workers minimum wage at M2,000 effective from April 01, 2018 pending finalisation of the case before court. The applicants also want the respondents to explain why Mrs. Rantšo should not be directed to dispatch to the Registrar of the Labour Appeal Court within five days of service the record of proceedings if any, that culminated in her exercise of powers pursuant to Section 51(1) of the Labour Code (as amended) and consequently lead to the publication of the Labour Code Wages (minimum wages) Notice of 2018. The respondents in this case are the Minister of Labour and Employment, Cabinet Ministers, Cabinet Sub-Committee, Wages Advisory Board and Attorney General. Lena
