HIS Majesty King Letsie III on Friday led the Maseru district cleaning campaign in Semonkong.

The campaign termed Hloekisa Lesotho (clean Lesotho) was also attended by Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro, Cabinet Ministers, public servants and the community of Semonkong.
Speaking at the event, the King said the initiative is intended to invigorate people to protect the environment so that it can provide for them, their livestock and the general livelihood.
He was hopeful that the campaign will plant the seed that the environment should be protected at all times.

He also thanked members of the diplomatic corps who joined the campaign.

For his part, Dr Moeketsi Majoro said the Semonkong campaign follows the launch of Hloekisa Lesotho on September 18, adding that ministers have been assigned in all districts to oversee the cleaning throughout the country.

He underscored the importance of the campaign saying it is being held during an important time in the history of Lesotho (in October), when the nation celebrates its independence.

The Semonkong Town Clerk Ntšehiseng Mohapi applauded the government for bringing the campaign to Semonkong.

She called on the community to ensure that they keep the area clean and not throw disposable nappies into the river as that contaminates the water.

Semonkong is located about 120 kilometers from the city centre and was declared as an Urban Council in 2005.
