MASERU - The lawyer representing double murder accused Lehlohonolo Scott and his mother ’Malehlohonolo has asked the High Court to acquit the two, saying there is no airtight case against them.

Advocate Thulo Hoeane on Tuesday told the court that evidence against his two clients was circumstantial and therefore the court would not find them guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

The Scotts of Koalabata, Berea are charged with the ritual murder of two Koalabata boys, Moholobela Seetsa, 13, and Kamohelo Mohata, 22.

The killings allegedly occurred in January and July 2012 respectively, in Koalabata.

Scott is also accused of later that year escaping from lawful custody at the Maseru Central Prison where he was detained after his arrest. Advocate Hoeane said ’Malehlohonolo should never have been arrested in the first place as she played no role in the alleged killings.

He said so far no witness had come forward to testify against her. The Crown is represented in the matter by Advocates Gareth Leppan and Thapelo Mokuku. The case continues before Justice Teboho Moiloa.
