MASERU - Police are investigating a burglary that occurred on Sunday night at the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) headquarters where a number of offices were broken into and equipment along with files stolen.

LEC burglary under probe

The breaking-in was announced by the Minister of Energy and Meteorology, Professor Ntoi Rapapa during a press briefing held on Monday morning.
The offices that were broken into according to Prof Rapapa belong to the power utility’s human resource manager, economic planner, public relations officer, internal auditor as well as the projects officer.
Properties stolen during the burglary he said included eight laptop computers, three cell-phones and a number files.
He said there was no sign of forced entry at the main entrance although a sharp object appeared to have been used to force open doors leading to the offices.
He said some of the locks on the doors to the filing cabinets were broken while others were not.

The crime he said was noticed by the cleaners who alerted management before the incident was reported to the police.
No arrests have yet been made in connection with the burglary and investigations according to police spokesperson, Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli are at an advanced stage.
