THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) Mediator in Lesotho’s political turmoil, retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke of South Africa has expressed his gratification at the progress Lesotho has made with regards to the national reforms process.

Justice Moseneke was in Lesotho last week on a three-day visit that ended on Saturday.

The visit was a follow-up on the progress report on the state of the reforms which was presented by a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Mathibeli Mokhothu in Pretoria the previous week.
Justice Moseneke, who also spent time with members of the National Reforms Authority (NRA), underscored the need to reach the August time-line in order to ensure that some laws are enacted before the 2022 general elections.
He said there is also a process of peace and reconciliation which is important and entails among others, closure and amnesty, adding that it will depend on Basotho if they want to go through that route.
He was however, hopeful that the peace and reconciliation process will lead to reforms for a better life for Basotho.
Justice Moseneke also met both Prime Minister D Moeketsi Majoro and His Majesty King Letsie III before he returned to South Africa.

Lesotho’s reforms journey started in 2018 with districts’ consultations to diaspora and other several activities, from the First and Second Multi Stakeholders (FSMS) meetings in which a comprehensive reforms report covering seven areas was presented to Justice Moseneke on behalf of the SADC official Mediator, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa.
