A THABA-TSEKA man who allegedly killed his neighbour after the man’s cattle strayed into his garden claims that the deceased also torched his house some years ago.

Tlhako Mohale who is expected to reappear in the Maseru Magistrate’s Court next week Thursday, was before the same court on Tuesday.

Senior Magistrate Phethisang Motinyane heard this week how on the night of January 15, Mohale, 38, was sleeping in his Ha Mohale home when he heard a racket outside, made by barking dogs.

When he went outside to investigate, he found his neighbour Lebaka Ramolebatsi milling around his courtyard.

The court was told how Mohale chased the man out of his compound before he caught up with him and fatally assaulted him with a fighting stick.

Another neighbour told the court that earlier on January 15, he saw the two men arguing over Ramolebatsi’s animals that had strayed into Mohale’s garden.

The neighbour also confirmed that the two men had always had a sour relationship.

In his defence, Mohale claimed that his acetic relations with Ramolebatsi were exacerbated by the fact that Ramolebatsi burnt down his house some years back.

But he was unable to explain to the court as to why he had not reported the alleged arson to the police.

He was remanded in custody.
