LIKUENA attacking duo of Motebang Sera and Tumelo Khutlang endured mixed fortunes in the opening matches of the South African DSTV Premiership this past weekend.

Sera maintained his place in the Bloemfontein Celtic starting line-up in the new season as they played to a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows at Dr Molemela Stadium.

The former Econet Premier League Player of the Season was also in the starting line-up as Phunya Sele Sele stunned Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 in the MTN8 quarterfinal last weekend.

The Likuena striker was taken off late in the second half in both matches and is still searching for his first goal from the two opening games of the 2020/2021 season played thus far.

He had an impressive start to life playing in South Africa with Celtic in the 2019/2020 season, registering 20 appearances in all competitions and netted seven goals including the famous brace against Kaizer Chiefs towards the end of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Khutlang was not in the match day squad for Black Leopards, who suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Supersport United in their opening match of the new DSTV Premiership season.

Black Leopards' Tumelo Khutlang

Both Sera and Khutlang are in the Likuena provisional squad for the upcoming back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin scheduled for mid-November.

Lehlohonolo Seema’s Chippa United were also in action over the weekend playing to a 1-1 stalemate against Cape Town City in their opening match of the new campaign.

Former Bantu winger and Econet Premier League Player of the Season for 2018/19, Maloisane Ramasimong walked away with the Man of the Match award in that game after reuniting with Seema at Chippa.

Seema signed Ramasimong for Celtic from Bantu two seasons ago and the diminutive forward joined the former Likuena captain at the Chilli Boys after he was released by Phunya Sele Sele at the end of last season.
