THE five members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) who face attempted murder charges of the former Lesotho Times’ Editor, Lloyd Mutungamiri are expected back in the Maseru Magistrate’s Court during the first week of November, when their case resumes.

The trial was postponed in October last year after the accused filed an application in which they wanted the court to refer the matter to the High Court.

The application has however, since been dropped.

The accused include Rapele Mphaki, Khutlang Mochesane, Mahanyane Phusumane, Nyatso Tšoeunyane and Maribe Nathane.

They are charged with the attempted murder of Mutungamiri on July 9, 2016 at his Lower Thamae home in Maseru.

Among others, the applicants wanted to know whether or not the consultation of one the accused, Phusumane had contravened their rights.

They also wanted the trial to be permanently stayed, accusing the Crown of unjust conduct.

Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Murenzi who is presiding over the case had said the intervention through the application was crucial in terms of fair trial, adding however, that the delay was necessary. LeNA
