TWO weeks after a Quthing-woman was shot dead at the Basotho National Party (BNP) leadership elective conference in Mazenod, Maseru, police have still not made any arrests in connection with the murder.

Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, however showed that investigations into the matter that occurred on the night of June 12 are at an advanced stage.

The woman who was shot on the head was pronounced dead on arrival at Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital later that night.

Sources close to the matter said unidentified men who were wearing blue jackets, were seen firing shots from outside the Mejametalana Conference Hall, where the conference was held.
The sources also said this looked like a random shooting, as it came from outside and the shot woman was hit inside the hall.

The sources have confirmed that there were some misunderstandings about the conference and that one of the candidates was heard threatening bloodshed.

It is believed that the shooting occurred because some constituencies were not allowed into the conference due to some discrepancies, while, others were aggrieved due to the withdrawal of certain candidates from the election race.

Former BNP deputy leader Machesetsa Mofomobe was elected leader at the conference, replacing Chief Thesele ’Maseribane whose term ended in March. LeNA
