MASERU - Members of the youth leagues drawn from different opposition parties are planning to petition Prime Minister Motsoahae Thabane to retire.

The youth leagues made the announcement on Thursday during a joint press conference which was held at the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) offices in Maseru.

LCD youth league deputy president Phetho Matla said as they would also petition army commander Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela, police commissioner Holomo Molibeli and correctional services commissioner Thabang Mothepu.

The petition which will also be endorsed by local factory workers unions also wants the entire cabinet to step down.
The youths further demand the recusal of all the foreign judges who are presiding over high profile cases against members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) and the police.

The soldiers and police face a battery of charges that includes among others murder, attempted murder and destruction of property.
