Major Ramoepane was accused of the murder of former army boss, Lieutenant General Khoantle Motšomotšo. The alleged murder occurred at the Ratjomose military barracks in Maseru on September 5, 2017.
Senior Counsel Shaun Abrahams who represents the Crown in the matter told High Court judge, Dr Onkemetse Tshosa that after carefully interviewing some of the key witnesses, he advised the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to drop charges against the accused soldier.

He recommended an inquest to be held to look into the circumstances surrounding Gen Motšomotšo’s murder and requested Dr Tshosa to preside over the inquiry.
King’s Counsel Karabo Mohau represents Major Ramoepane in the case. The matter will continue on Tuesday after KC Mohau requested to be given time to consult with his client.
