THE Minister of Labour and Employment Moshe Leoma says the Ntlafatso Skills Training Centre (NSTC) in Mohale's Hoek has been closed down because it has an outstanding power bill worth around half a million maloti with the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC).

The centre he said is unable to settle its debt because of an inadequate budget allocated to the ministry by the National Assembly.

Mr Leoma was responding to a question asked in Parliament on Thursday by MP for Movement for Economic Change (MEC) ’Mantšiuoa Mosothoane who had wanted to know if he was aware that the institute had not been operating for over two years due to lack of electricity.

He said the Minister of Finance showed even in this year's financial estimates that funds allocated to the labour ministry are still not enough to carry out all its projects, like resuscitating the NSTC.

He said even his predecessor Keketso Rantšo had answered the same question upon the institute’s closure in 2019.

He was also made aware that in spite of the fact that the centre was not operating and not benefitting Basotho, its employees were still getting their salaries without fail.
