Two suspected female shoplifters from Maputsoe were on Tuesday arrested by the South African police after they allegedly stole food at a grocery store in the neighbouring town of Ficksburg.

Captain Phumelelo Dlamini of the Free State Police said the suspects are notorious shoplifters who have previously been arrested on several occasions for the same crime. He said the suspects and other known shoplifters also from Maputsoe have on various occasions targeted that particular shop.

“I have no idea why women from Lesotho mainly target that shop,” Dlamini said. He said most of them illegally enter South Africa by crossing through the Mohokare River, which forms the boundary line between Lesotho and South Africa. The suspects, he said are expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
