LERIBE - Wives of members of parliament from Leribe district based constituencies recently handed out school shoes to 100 students from different 10 primary schools within the district. The students were derived from 10 primary schools, namely Litlhats’oaneng, Lejakane, Qoqolosing, MaryLand, Nqechane, Leribe and Mohapi primary schools to mention a few. Addressing the beneficiaries Prime Minister, Dr. Motsoahae Thabane expressed his gratitude to the wives of the members of parliament by coming up with an initiative to change student’s lives. He encouraged members of parliament to work hand in hand with their wives as they need their support, saying they should appreciate their iwivesnvolvement in socail resoonsibility activities. Dr. Thabane reminded members of parliament that their work includes taking into consideration the community’s needs, adding that there has to be a major difference in their constituencies. In addition, he said they should live in peace with others and avoid fighting each other. Echoing the same sentiments, First Lady Mrs. ‘Maisaih Thabane said the wives of the members of parliament should work hard and cooperate in making the initiative a success. She indicated that though men have physical power, women have more power in thinking thus they should use it to benefit Basotho. Mrs. Thabane highlighted that they should feel the responsibility to assist all vunerable children and this will help develop the country. Speaking at the same event, Member of Parliament for Leribe constituency, Mr. Ts’ehlo Ramarou said they are faced with many challenges as they have to help people with different needs, citing, elders, orphans and vulnerable children and disabled people. He said he appreciates that Mrs. Thabane adviced their wives to come up with initiative to help in their communities as such has played a major part in fulfilling their duties. Mr. Ramarou explained that there are about 20 primary schools in Leribe constituency but only 10 were chosen, adding that for Jonathane primary school all the 20 pupils will be given shoes during the second round. He said it is their wish that the wives of other members of parliament should do the same in their constituencies. The wife of Member of Parliament for Leribe constituency Mrs. ‘Mamahooana Ramarou expressed her gratitude to Mrs. Thabane for advicing them, saying they also appreciate her contribution towards the initiative. She pointed out that those schools which have not been chosen for the first round should not feel left out but celebrate with those who received. Mrs. Ramarou highlighted that even for the second round the teachers should oblige with the critea used in electing students. Present at the occasion were also members of parliament for Tsikoane, Peka, ‘Malibamats’o and Likhetlane together with their wives. Lena
