MASERU – The High Court on Thursday reinstated the Commissioner of Police Holomo Molibeli who was earlier last week suspended by Prime Minister Motsoahae Thabane.

Commissioner Molibeli’s restoration came after he challenged his suspension before the High Court where he had cited Mr Thabane and four others as respondents.

The decision to reinstate the police chief was made after the two parties reached an amicable settlement.

According to his lawyer Advocate Tekane Maqakachane, the parties agreed to withdraw his letter of suspension dated January 3, 2020.

They also withdrew another letter dated January 6, 2020, appointing Deputy Commissioner Sera Makharilele as the Acting Police Commissioner.

The settlement was confirmed by the respondents' lawyer and made an order of the court by the presiding judge Justice Tšeliso Monaphathi.
Commissioner Molibeli was on January 2 ordered to go on forced leave and hand over his responsibilities to Senior Assistant Commissioner Janki Hlaahla.
He consequently asked the High Court on January 3 to intervene in the matter.
