MASERU – Allegations of stashes of ruined wool and mohair from the Thaba-Boisu Wool Centre discarded at the Ha Tšosane dumpsite have been found false.

This week accusations were flung at the centre through various media platforms, suspected of abandoning the soiled stock at site from their warehouse.

Detractors went further to suggest that the stock was part of the wool and mohair that had been housed at the centre since the wool and mohair saga that hit the industry beginning 2017 began.

Metro reporters who visited the dumpsite have established, however, that the waste was part of the daily excess that comes from the Thetsane Industrial Area.

According to the dumpsite’s Health and Safety Officer, Tumelo Ntsoane, the wool comes from the Ha Thetsane factories, and “it is the kind that local vendors and village foragers come to pick to use to stuff pillows, cushions and/or blankets.”

“It is ordinary waste that came to the dump site from the factories, and just like any trash people separate this to sell for the purposes I have mentioned. I can confirm here that this is neither wool nor mohair as alleged,” he explained.

He further explained that this is the kind of trash that comes in daily, and more than once a day sometimes.

The supposed wool was stashed in packets, and this publication can also confirm that it was indeed material that is used for stuffing. Some of the packages even had seeds inside to further confirm that it was indeed cotton wool.

Some of the material that was found beyond recycling was even paved on a muddy and slippery ground that delivery vehicles use for dumping to suck in moisture in the wet ground. A part of the material had also been separated for reselling.
