MASERU – Four people including Prime Minister Motsoahae Thabane’s grandson named after him have filed an application before the Court of Appeal requesting a reversal of the bail that was granted to the First Lady last week.

The quartet comprises Thomas Motsoahae Thabane (junior), Khauhelo Molapo named in the papers as the first victim, Thuto Makhooane - the second victim and Thato Sibolla who has been identified as the survivor.

The four want the bail which was granted to ’Maesaiah Thabane on February 5 by the Acting Chief Justice ’Maseforo Mahase to be quashed.

’Maesaiah is accused of the murder of Prime Minister Thabane’s estranged wife Lipolelo and the attempted murder of her companion Sibolla (named in the appeal as the survivor).

Lipolelo was gunned down at the gate of her Ha ’Masana residence on the outskirts of Maseru by unknown men on June 14, 2017 - two days before Thabane’s inauguration.

Sibolla survived the same attack with serious gunshot wounds.

’Maesaiah handed herself over to the police last week Tuesday after she had fled the country on January 10, to evade arrest.

Police had issued a warrant for her arrest after she failed to report herself for questioning in connection with Lipolelo’s death.
