LIKUENA and Bantu goalkeeper Ntsane Lichaba says he is not panicking after losing his spot as the first-choice goal-minder having had to watch from the bench as Sekhoane Moerane played between the goals in the last two matches against Benin late last year.

Lichaba also faces tough competition from Thabo Sedisa in the starting line-up for Bantu with each player having played two from the four games since the start of the 2020/2021 season.

However, the shot stopper, who has been the first choice for club and country over the last two years, says he is not afraid of competition from his two competitors and will regain his place as the best in the country.

“The thing is, football is about competition and that’s what I love most because what kills other players is not having competition where they play and starting to relax,” Lichaba said.

“The competition I get from Thabo (Sedisa) and Sekhoane (Moerane) is a motivation factor for me to keep focused at all the time and also an encouragement to each of us to grow and be better players.”

The former Matlama goalkeeper stated that being on the bench in the recent games against Benin has been a wake-up call for him to work even harder on his game.

Added the goalkeeper: “When you are down, you want to go up and when you get there, you do not want to go down again. In football, you know that there are those that will wish you well and others bad. The support from those that love you, especially the supporters is the main reason for a player to go an extra mile. I never want to disappoint them.

“With regard to the national team and not playing in the recent games, I do not want to say I have lost my place as the first-choice goalkeeper. I think the game plan for the two matches favoured Sekhoane’s style of play because we are two different goalkeepers.

“To be the number one goalkeeper for the country, one has to always be dedicated, determined and disciplined and I think I still maintain those. I will regain my place as the number one again,” he pledged.
