MASERU - The last mini league of the Lesotho National Netball League did not play to completion. Interestingly, the remaining games are scheduled for the last week of July - 28 and 29. Telang Machela, the association’s Director of Development (DD) said the teams were playing the second leg and they could not play to the finish owing to the absence of sponsorship. Regrettably, it was that handicap that led to inability to provide awards to the victors and the run-ups.

Lack of sponsors hinder netball league
The league was started in 2017, and went on till a fortnight ago. It will commence on tomorrow and is expected to finish on Sunday. The close scrutiny of the said games shows that they were divided into two women’s streams of A and B, as well as the men’s stream. Stream A was made of Lesotho Correctional Service (LSC), Butha Buthe Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS), Lerotholi Polytechnic (LP), Likoekoe 1st Team (Leqele High School), Leseli (NUL), Thetsane High School, Ntaote Roses, Lesotho Collage of Education (LCE), Likila, Leribe and Mohale’s Hoek. However, Mohale’s Hoek, Leribe and Likila did not show up.

Steam B was made of Leqele, Mafeteng Central, Lesotho Defence Force, Prince, Maseru City Council (MCC), Masitise High School, Mapetla High School, Phuthiatsana High School, Galaxy, Liphakoe, Moorosi High School and Mopholosi High School. However, Mopholosi, Moorosi, Liphakoe and Galaxy did not avail themselves. The men’s teams were made of LCS, Leseli, Prince, Thetsane, Mafeteng Central, Ntaote Roses, Masitise and Liphakoe while Liphakoe, Ntaote Roses, Mafeteng Central and Thetsane High School did not turn up. Machela went on to disclose that they were still looking forward to getting sponsors after taking over from the outgoing Executive Committee (EC).
Machela also told Metro that: “The past EC had sponsors, but I am not sure if they are still there - UNCIEF and KFC. We still have to find out if they are still on. We need to have well organised and competitive finals, which is one of the reasons we moved the finals to July 28 and 29, 2018. “The league began in 2017 and we are hoping to have finals at the end of July. We hope everything will be in order and the awards will proceed as well.”
