THE Sierra Leone team that will meet Likuena on Saturday afternoon for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers clash had a brief standoff with immigration officials who refused it entry into the country on Thursday at the Moshoeshoe I International Airport.

The Director of Immigration ’Mantšebo Motsoanakaba is alleged to have ordered officers under her command not to allow the team into the country, saying she had not been informed about its arrival.

LeFA Secretary General Mokhosi Mohapi has confirmed this, saying the association had to ask for Motsoanakaba’s approval in writing.

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has since announced that the national side, the Leone Stars have arrived safely in Maseru for the Saturday encounter.

“The delegation led by Executive Committee Member Pastor Philip Buck under the supervision of the Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nyelenkeh and the Executive Director of Sports Dr Kenneth Brima was greeted with a warm reception by officials of the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA). The Leone Stars 43-man delegation has been checked in at the Avani Lesotho Hotel as preparation continues ahead of the Saturday’s clash,” SLFA said in a statement released on Friday.
